Purchase of certified pulp PEFC™/FSC®

Purchase of certified pulp PEFC/FSC
70% 2016
36% 2006

In 2016, Lecta consumed a total of 674,397 m3 of eucalyptus wood from Spain and Portugal for manufacturing pulp at its Zaragoza (Spain) mill. This amount represents 30% of Lecta’s pulp needs for paper production. The remaining pulp comes from external suppliers, all PEFC™ and/or FSC® certified.

Lecta complies with the EU Timber Regulation (Regulation 995/2010), which prohibits selling illegally harvested timber or timber products in the EU.

Dry Sludge (kg/t)

Dry Sludge
10.22 2016
14.46 2006

Since 2012, Lecta has maintained its levels of dry sludge generated per ton of paper produced.

In 2016, 98.04% of the sludge generated in the production process was recovered for uses such as farm composting.

WATER USAGE | Ongoing improvements in the water recycling process, the installation and renewal of equipment, as well as heightened employee awareness are priorities at Lecta. They ensure that we continuously improve the efficiency of water management, essential in pulp and paper production processes.

Over the last ten years, the discharge water flow used in pulp and paper production was reduced by more than 26.8%.

TSS (kg/t)

0.15 2016

WATER QUALITY | Two of the key indicators for measuring the quality of the water returned to the environment are Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) and Total Suspended Solids (TSS).

Lecta has reduced COD values by 42% since 2012 and the TSS values by 25% in the same period.

COD (kg/t)

Since 2014, Lecta has continuously reduced COD values per ton (1.21 kg in 2016).

CO2 Emissions (t CO2/t)

CO2 Emissions

CO2 EMISSIONS | Lecta closely monitors energy efficiency at all its mills, allowing us to reduce CO2 emissions by ton of paper produced each year. Since 2006, CO2 emissions have been reduced by 20%.

Energy Consumption (MWh/t)

Energy Consumption (MWh/t)

ENERGY CONSUMPTION | By implementing the ISO 50001 standard at all our mills and prioritizing efficient and responsible energy use, since 2006 Lecta has gradually reduced its energy consumption per ton of paper to to 2.11 MWh/t in 2016.

CHP (COGENERATION) | Lecta has progressively increased the amount of electricity it generates, surpassing the amount of energy consumed.
Lecta’s Zaragoza, Leitza, Motril, Sant Joan les Fonts, Le Lardin-Saint-Lazare and Riva del Garda mills have CHP (cogeneration) plants.
