In 2018, Lecta consumed a total of 684,977 m3 eucalyptus wood from Spain and Portugal for manufacturing pulp at its Zaragoza (Spain) mill. This amount represents 32.8% of Lecta's pulp needs for paper production. The remaining pulp comes from external suppliers, all PEFC™ and/or FSC® certified.

Lecta complies with the EU Timber Regulation (Regulation 995/2010), which prohibits selling illegally harvested timber or timber products in the EU.

Since 2017, Lecta recovers nearly 100% of the sludge generated in the manufacturing process.

In 2017 and 2018, Lecta continues reducing its levels of dry sludge, achieving parameters below 9 kg/t for the first time.

WATER USAGE | Ongoing improvements in the water recycling process, renewal and installation of new equipment, as well as heightened employee awareness are priorities at Lecta. They ensure that we continuously improving and more efficient in our water management.

The slight increases in water values in this period are due, essentially, to production stoppages and the change in the production mix at some of our mills.

Over the last ten years, the discharge water flow used in pulp and paper production was reduced by more than 13.4%.

WATER QUALITY | Two of the key indicators for measuring the quality of the water returned to the environment in the paper industry are Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) and Total Suspended Solids (TSS).

Since 2014, Lecta has continuously reduced COD values per ton (1.17 kg in 2017).

Lecta has reduced COD values by 27% since 2008 and the TSS values by 37% in the same period.

CO2 EMISSIONS | Lecta closely monitors energy efficiency at all its mills, allowing us to reduce CO2 emissions by ton of paper produced each year. Since 2008, CO2 emissions have been reduced by 16%.

ENERGY CONSUMPTION | By implementing the ISO 50001 standard at all our mills and prioritizing efficient and responsible energy use, since 2008 Lecta has gradually reduced its energy consumption per ton of paper to 2.11 MWh/t in 2018.
