Objectives, commitments and achievements 2017-2018

Alto Garda Power

In each Environmental Report, Lecta lays out a series of objectives and commitments that will guide our sustainability priorities over the next two years. These include aspects related to certifications, climate change, reducing environmental impact, social responsibility and information transparency.

Once this period ends, a public review of each takes place, and progress made in achieving our goals and fulfilling our commitments is communicated with the greatest possible transparency.

Verify the safety of Lecta papers for use in the food industry. Secure food safety certification at one of the Group's mills in 2018. Lecta now has two food safety certifications: ISO 22000 certification at the Motril mill and FSSC 22000 certification at the Sant Joan les Fonts mill.
Increase the amount of pulp purchased from certified forest plantations. Purchase more than 71% of pulp from certified forests (2017-2018 average). Lecta has purchased 73% of its pulp from PEFC -or FSC® - certified suppliers (2018 average).

Communicate our progress in social responsibility on an annual basis. Submit an annual progress report to the United Nations Global Compact. Lecta publishes a yearly progress report on the implementation of the 10 principles of the Global Compact.
Promote responsible, environment friendly supply chain business practices. Share information on the environment, CSR and sales ethics in the main forums and platforms existing for the disclosure and exchange of sustainability data. Lecta is a member of numerous industry associations and actively participates in initiatives that promote corporate responsibility, transparency and sustainability.

Maintain our position as an industry leader in minimizing environmental impact. Reduce NOx emissions by 50% at Motril and Zaragoza CHP (cogeneration) plants. Changing the turbine at the Motril CHP plant enabled reducing NOx emissions by more than 90%: from 3.4 kg/t (2017) to 0.2 kg/t (2018).
Meanwhile, changing the turbine at the Zaragoza CHP plant resulted in reducing NOx emissions by more than 60%: from 1.6 kg/t (2017) to 0.6 kg/t (average since April 2018, after changing the turbine).
Continue with a study to set an objective of reducing Lecta's CO2 emissions in 2020. Energy efficiency audits were carried out at the Zaragoza, Motril and Sant Joan les Fonts mills. The investments for reducing CO2 emissions have also begun to be implemented at some of the mills.

Share objectives and actions deriving from our integrated quality management, environmental, energy and occupational health and safety policy with stakeholders. Publish an environmental report and other environment-related documents on a regular basis. Lecta annually publishes EMAS Environmental Statements for all its mills, and publishes an Environmental Report every two years.
