SOCIAL RESPONSABILITY

Here at Lecta, we have a clear commitment to social responsibility. It entails the adoption of economic, social and environmental management systems based on transparency and responsibility toward our customers, employees, suppliers, local communities and society in general.

One of the key elements of Lecta’s commitment to society and good business practices is its membership, since 2004, in the United Nations Global Compact, the world’s largest Corporate Social Responsibility initiative.

The UN Global Compact is an international initiative designed to encourage companies to voluntarily commit to social responsibility by adopting ten principles of behavior and action in the areas of human rights, labor regulations, the environment and anti-corruption.

By joining the Global Compact, Lecta reaffirms its commitment to socially responsible business practices and guarantees the integration of the ten principles into the company’s strategy, culture and daily operations. Lecta submits an annual report identifying progress made in implementing the 10 Global Compact principles, thereby increasing the transparency of its actions. This report is available at www.unglobalcompact.org

Forest restoration is a cornerstone of Lecta’s social and environmental commitment.

In Italy, Cartiere del Garda has partnered with Adamello Brenta Natural Park for projects in the largest protected area in Trentino, located in the Alps, since 1997.

Torraspapel, in collaboration with the Spanish NGO AccioNatura, has been participating in ecological recovery and reforestation projects, resulting in the planting of nearly 20,500 trees on the Iberian Peninsula and in Brazil.

Lecta’s goal is to share its experience in paper manufacturing with society at large, particularly with those groups whose members can benefit from learning about our activity firsthand, thus contributing to more complete training and their being better able to perform their work. In this regard, Lecta collaborates with graphic arts and paper engineering schools in Spain and France.

From its origins paper has been closely associated with the world of art and culture as a medium for emblematic artistic work. Lecta also collaborates with museums, exhibitions and renowned cultural and artistic publications.

As part of their corporate social responsibility strategy, Lecta companies sponsor or otherwise help finance numerous cultural, sports and healthcare projects.

Each year Lecta sends Christmas and New Year’s greeting cards to our customers and stakeholders that are also a show of support for a variety of charities. With the “Oxfam-Intermon” and “Save the Children” organizations, Lecta has helped to finance projects in the fight against poverty and in support of the rights of the most disadvantaged children worldwide.

In addition, Lecta helps publish other pieces and calendars for non-profit organizations that promote cultural and social ends such as reading, education and integration of persons with disabilities. Creator papers are used in the Talita Foundation Calendar, which helps children and young people with Down’s Syndrome, and the INOUT hostel Calendar, the first European tourist complex staffed by workers with mental disabilities, are two examples.

Torraspapel works with “Business With Social Value” (BWSV), an initiative that seeks to create real-world, competitive possibilities for non-profit enterprises where people with disabilities make up more than 70% of the workforce.
